Teena Nelson and Kukom Wanda Sanderson

Teena Nelson is from Ahtahkakoop First Nation.  Teena is the proud mother of 2 adult children and a loving wife to her husband Oran. She is also a teacher and mentors’ parents on their healing journey. Teena loves to make bracelets in her spare time and has started her own business selling bracelets. Teena volunteers with Inspire Our Nation as a mentor and is currently helping with the Leadership Program. Teena is a proud Indigenous woman who loves her culture and is excited to share how to make bannock over the fire. Her favorite color is turquoise and purple and she loves turtles.

Kukom Wanda Sanderson is from Sturgeon Lake First Nation. Wanda grew up in residential school from age 5years old in 1958 till she was 15 years old.  Kukom Wanda Is the proud mother of 5 children and 4 adopted children. She has 18 grandchildren and 12 special grandchildren. Kukom Wanda loves to sew in her spare time and take care of all of her great grand children. She started cooking at the age of nine years old and was taught from her Grandmother who spoke only Cree. Kukom Wanda completed her Social Work Degree at University of Regina. She worked with children for 21 years with the PAGC Tribal Council. Today, Kukom Wanda is an Elder who supports parents on their healing journey. Her favorite color is red and a rustic orange and she loves eagles. Kukom Wanda loves baking, canning fruits and vegetables. Kukom Wanda is excited to make bannock and show you how to cook it over the fire.

Youth will have the opportunity to bake bannock over an open fire with Kukom Wanda and Teena Nelson. Come and share in the cooking of Traditional Indigenous Food.
